What to Expect During Your First Session

During your initial session, individuals are encouraged to talk freely and in confidence about personal, concerns or problems.  I will help you sort out thoughts, feelings, and help to clarify and assess the presenting issues. It is my intention that by the end of the first or second session, we have agreed upon a goal for your counseling treatment, a general plan for working toward that goal, and some idea of the length of time it may take to achieve that goal.

How many sessions will treatment take?  The number of sessions will very depending on the issue that brings you in, readiness for change, the severity of the presenting issue and the length of time that the problems have been occurring, as well as many other factors.

How frequently do I need to attend treatment?  I will work with your schedule, budget, and the time frame in which you are wanting to accomplish your goals. Some clients come in once a week, once every other week, or even once a month.  At times some individuals ask to come in twice a week.  For couples needing relief from the stress, arguing, and exhaustion that comes from relationship issues, more frequent sessions in the beginning of treatment often works well.
